For the first time in 30 years of independence, Moldova has acquired natural gas from an alternative supplier, and not from Russia, the supplies will be carried out through Ukraine.

"Evropeyskaya Pravda" was informed about this by the Moldovan Foreign Ministry.

"Today, the government of the Republic of Moldova, for the first time in the country's history, bought natural gas from an alternative source. The Moldovan state-owned company Energocom has signed a contract with the Polish company PGNiG for a million cubic meters of natural gas," the Foreign Ministry said.

As noted, over the thirty years of its existence, Moldova has been buying gas exclusively from the Russian supplier Gazprom.

7 participants took part in the open tender Energocom. PGNiG won the tender.

Starting from 6.00 on October 26, gas will be delivered to Moldova within 24 hours through the Alekseevka gas point. This is a Ukrainian gas metering point on the Moldovan border in the Chernivtsi region.

"In order to maintain the gas pressure at an acceptable level and ensure the country's energy security, Energocom bought gas at the market price and at the lowest price offered during the auction," the Moldovan Foreign Ministry said.

The government of Moldova on October 22 approved a state of emergency for a period of 30 days due to the current situation in the country in the energy sector.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba at a joint press conference with his Moldovan counterpart Nicolae Popescu in Kiev said that Ukraine would cooperate with Moldova on gas supply issues.

On October 22, the NSDC instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to consider the issue of assistance to Moldova with gas supplies.
