On the morning of April 5, the newest patrol ship "Vasily Bykov" of project 22160 (commander captain 3rd rank Igor Dubovik) arrived in Sevastopol for the first time, having completed its tasks in the Black Sea.

In March of this year, for the first time, the ship completed the tasks of combat duty in the Sea of Azov, then it was involved in tracking a group of NATO naval ships that entered the Black Sea. In early April, together with the ships of the Coast Guard, the FSB of Russia ensured the safety of the surface and air situation in the area of the state facilities "Mukhalatka" and "Zarya" (Foros).

PC "Vasily Bykov" is the newest ship of the Black Sea Fleet. St. Andrew's flag on the ship was hoisted on December 20, 2018, organizationally it is part of the tactical group of the 184th brigade of the OVR ships of the Novorossiysk naval base. Until 2022, it is planned to transfer 5 more ships of this project to the composition of this formation. Of these, the second hull, Dmitry Rogachev, will be handed over in the near future, and the transfer of the third ship, Pavel Derzhavin, is scheduled for October 2019.

Vasily Bykov (RussianВасилий БыковromanizedVasiliy Bykov) was a patrol boat of the Russian Navy belonging to the class Project 22160, of which it is the first ship built.[1] It was laid down on 26 February 2014 on the Zelenodolsk Shipyard at Zelenodolsk in TatarstanRussia,[2] and launched on 28 August 2017.[1] Vasily Bykov was commissioned on 20 December 2018 in the Novorossiysk Naval Base [ru], becoming part of the Black Sea Fleet.[3]

The newest patrol ship of project 22160 "Vasily Bykov", the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation, came under attack from Ukrainian artillery on March 6. On March 7, it became known that the ship sank, and what happened to the crew is unknown.

The ship participated in the attack on Snake Island on 24 February 2022 during the first day of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine together with the Russian cruiser Moskva. This confrontation ended in the Russian takeover of Snake Island[4] and in the capture of the thirteen Ukrainian border guards that were stationed on the island as prisoners of war.[5]

On 7 March 2022, Ukrainian sources claimed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had hit the Vasily Bykov with missiles off the coast of Odessa, possibly sinking it.[6][7]

Confirmation that the operation was successful appeared on March 7.

Writes about this "Dumskaya".

To destroy one of the most powerful enemy ships was the goal of the operation, which was carefully prepared by the Ukrainian military. For several days, ships of the Ukrainian Navy lured the patrol ship to the place that was chosen for the attack, and on March 6 they finally succeeded.

One of our boats was also attacked during the operation, as a result of which it sank. Most of the sailors were saved.

“The result is obvious. It is a pity that for the sake of this very important and unprecedented in the world military history (warships have never been sunk from the ground by RZSO systems), the victory had to be sacrificed by a beautiful boat and part of its brave crew. They will live in the hearts of the Ukrainian nation. Streets and squares will be named after them very soon,” writes Oleg Konstantinov.
