Due to the large number of Russian prisoners of war, the Ukrainian government set up a Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

According to the News Agency , this was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky in a night address on March 12 .

"The number of captured occupiers has already reached such a level that this issue cannot be left to the structures that we had before the war. Therefore, today (March 11 - "N" ) the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has established a Coordination Headquarters for the treatment of prisoners of war, "the head of state said.

"Thousands of enemy soldiers who have been captured or surrendered are receiving from our state the treatment required by international conventions. But there are so many of them that we need a special structure that will deal with all related issues, ”Zelensky added.

According to him, the number of killed Russian servicemen on the territory of Ukraine already exceeds 12 thousand people.

“12 thousand! The number of wounded occupiers is many times greater. We did not invite any of them here. And we repeat to each of the occupiers: you can still escape. At any moment. Just lay down your arms and go home from our land, ”Zelensky said.

He addressed Russian soldiers in particular, especially conscripts (in Russian): “Do not give your children to war in a foreign land. Do not believe the promises that they will be sent simply somewhere to study or somewhere in non-combat conditions. Check where your son is. And if you have the slightest suspicion that your son may be sent to fight against Ukraine, act immediately. Do not give your son to death or captivity.

"Ukraine has never wanted this terrible war. And he doesn't want to. But he will defend himself as much as he has to, ”Zelensky added.
