There is not enough meat. Putin asks Wagner to help, as the Chinese do not want to die for his dacha and yacht.

"PMC Wagner" began a wide recruitment of mercenaries for the war with Ukraine. They take everyone

The British newspapers Times and Independent at the end of February reported that up to 400 Wagner PMC mercenaries allegedly appeared in Kiev with the aim of capturing the city and killing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Interlocutors of the BBC Russian Service among mercenaries claim that at that time a large recruitment of fighters for the Ukrainian war began, and even those with whom they had not signed contracts before began to be taken on staff, and they try to keep the basis of PMCs to fulfill previously signed contracts in other countries.

"At the request of workers, recruitment for guards in the near abroad has been opened." On February 28, when the Russian invasion had been going on for several days, such announcements began to appear in public places through which the recruitment of mercenaries to the Wagner PMC used to go.

Under the new conflict for potential mercenaries, almost all restrictions that existed before were lifted: if a few months ago no one was taken to PMCs except Russians born within the borders of the country before 2014, now residents of the self-proclaimed DPR are also invited to the recruiting point in Molkino near Krasnodar and the LPR, and residents of the annexed Crimea, and foreigners, only a ban on hiring Georgian citizens remained. The presence of debts to the Federal Bailiff Service, the absence of a certificate of good conduct or a passport also ceased to be a problem.

One of the mercenaries sent a message to the BBC Russian Service, which is sent out in their internal veteran chats: “Gentlemen! *. Abroad - by ****. Inquiries - by ****. LDNR, Crimea are very welcome. Who had problems with employment with us - call. Who was fired from us for some reason - call. I repeat, we invite you to eat "lard" for a picnic.

Back in the fall of 2021, former mercenaries complained that Wagner PMCs stopped accepting those born in Crimea or the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR, fearing that Ukrainian saboteurs might be among them. At the same time, the announcements emphasize that work under previous contracts is not suspended and there are no plans to transfer mercenaries from African countries back to Russia.

“Guys, everything is in normal mode, no changes. Africa has not failed underground. When Gazmanov’s concert in Kyiv, I don’t know. ads.

After Vladimir Putin announced the start of a military operation against Ukraine, planes temporarily stopped accepting airports in southern Russia in Rostov-on-Don, Anapa, Sochi and Krasnodar - the city from where the Molkino training ground, where the base and recruiting center are located, is the closest PMC "Wagner".

The widest possible recruitment in Molkino was confirmed to the BBC Russian Service by one of the mercenaries, who had recently been near the Russian-Ukrainian border, but had already returned home. According to him, the main part of Wagner PMC is not currently involved in the Ukrainian conflict.

“There is an interesting topic with the Ukrainian recruitment: there is not the main backbone, in Molkino they recruit everyone in a row. It is those who have jambs, those who are on the black lists,” he said. “It is not Wagner that works there, but only assembled detachments with different other names. We call them penal battalions with boys," he said.

“So it’s not Wagner there, but all the rabble that is now being recruited in Molkino with green doors. Those who are in the main detachments don’t participate. The only thing is, I don’t know what direction they are then sent to. At least they haven’t been seen in the LPR yet,” the source added.

In the weeks leading up to the war, a BBC source told the BBC, Wagner veterans were being recruited into new formations - commanded, as he claims, by "acting GRU officers." They were allegedly given chevrons with the names of new PMCs, after which, as he says, they completed a certain task "in the Kharkiv direction", received salaries of $ 2,100 per month and returned home.

The BBC has reached out to the Russian Defense Ministry for comment and is awaiting a response. The allegation of the participation of GRU officers cannot be verified from independent sources.

For the first time, "PMC Wagner" appeared just in the self-proclaimed LPR in 2014, when the conflict began in eastern Ukraine. Then the mercenaries took part in the battles for the Luhansk airport, but they gained wide popularity not in connection with this, but after the liquidation of a number of well-known field commanders who fought on the side of the self-proclaimed republic, but did not integrate into the "power vertical" that Moscow tried to build in Donetsk and Lugansk.

The liquidation of such field commanders as Aleksey Mozgovoy, Pavel Dremov or Alexander Bednov, the media, referring to members of the armed formations of the LPR, was associated with the work of Wagner, and not with the activities of Ukrainian saboteurs, as the authorities of the self-proclaimed republic claimed.

Over the following years, mercenaries managed to prove themselves in Syria, Libya, the Central African Republic, Mozambique, and Sudan. In December 2021, the European Union imposed sanctions against Wagner PMCs, eight individuals and three legal entities with whom the mercenaries signed contracts fell under the restrictions.

BBC News sent a request to the Russian Ministry of Defense to confirm or deny whether any additional forces are being recruited at the Molkino training ground for what the Russian authorities call a "special military operation", and is awaiting a response.
