According to the founder of the Ukrainian IT company Sergey Dulitsky, SpaceX representatives contacted him back in 2021 and demanded to abandon the brand.

The American company SpaceX, owned by businessman Elon Musk, has filed a lawsuit against Ukrainian companies Starlink LLC and Ukrpatent. The American company demands to terminate the registration of the trademark of the Ukrainian company ahead of schedule, the name of which coincides with the name of the SpaceX subsidiary Starlink. This is reported by the Internet resource dev.ua.

The publication refers to the decision of the Kiev Economic Court of October 24, which refers to the opening of proceedings in this case. The first hearing on the case is scheduled for December 8.

In a conversation with journalists, the founder of the Ukrainian company, Sergei Dulitsky, said that the Ukrainian Starlink LLC was registered in 2009 according to the register. His company has been providing IT services under the StarLink brand for a very long time - more than 14 years.

At the same time, the American Starlink appeared in Ukraine in April 2022. It is called Starlink Ukraine LLC , and after the start of the war, it provides satellite Internet services in Ukraine.

Dulitsky also said that even before the war in 2021, representatives of the American namesake contacted him and demanded that he abandon the brand.

"Reason: Starlink is a world famous brand. So give it back," Dulitsky said.

At the same time, the businessman stressed that he did not want to just give the name to the American company, but admits that he can enter into a dialogue with SpaceX if the Americans compensate his company for the losses associated with the abandonment of the brand.

“It’s not our fault that we chose such a name. By the way, long before Starlink itself appeared,” Dulitsky noted and added that his company under this brand is known to many clients in the IT market.

Earlier it was reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are concerned about failures in the Starlink satellite Internet. In early November, 1,300 military satellites suddenly went offline due to discussions about funding the project , CNN reported .

On October 31, Minister of Digital Transformation Mikhail Fedorov announced that more than 20,000 Starlink terminals operate in Ukraine to provide high-speed satellite Internet access. According to the official, Starlink will continue to operate in the country, as it is currently an element of critical infrastructure.
