Delivery of mail by drones is a fairly strong technological trend of the 21st century. Google, Amazon, Airbus and other companies are developing their own technology for automated air couriers. In Russia, they are also looking at new trends in this area, and are trying to keep up with the times.

Today in Ulan-Ude, a demonstration of the first delivery of a parcel in Russia by an unmanned aerial vehicle was supposed to take place. The cargo was planned to be sent from one of the districts of the city to the village of Tarbagatai. The significance of the event can be judged by the list of participants, including the head of Buryatia, Alexei Tsydenov, and the general director of Russian Post, Nikolai Podguzov.

According to the head of the Russian Post, the use of drones in the company’s work is very important: “We deliver mail and correspondence throughout the country, and often these are hard-to-reach areas that, in various climatic conditions, do not allow the use of traditional modes of transport, such as cars, for example. . Therefore, mail delivery using drones is relevant for us. I am very glad that we are launching this project here today, which should be successful.”

During his own short speech, the head of Buryatia said that the republic plans to launch its own production of drones. By the way, the drone, which was supposed to deliver the package, was made in Russia. The mass of the delivered cargo is 2 kg, the flight speed of the drone with the cargo is 70 km/h.

Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. The drone took off without problems, but after a few minutes it collided with the house and fell, turning into a pile of rubble. The multicopter cannot be restored, it is reported that the package was not damaged. According to the organizers, the drone lost control due to multiple signals from wireless Internet access points installed in the apartments of residents of the building that the copter collided with. Signals and knocked the copter off the path. The developers of the device are planned to improve, and the launch is to be repeated after the system is modified.

A few hours after the accident, the press service of the drone manufacturer released the following statement: “During the test launch of an unmanned aerial vehicle in the Republic of Buryatia, an abnormal shutdown of electronic equipment occurred. The causes of the malfunction will be established after decoding the telemetry data. The test launch of the UAV is postponed. A new date will be announced later."

Immediately after the incident, Russian Post announced that the company took part in the event only as a guest. And the organizer and manufacturer of the device was the Rudron/Forwarder 3M company.

“The manufacturer of the unmanned aerial vehicle, the Rudron/Forwarder 3M company, organized testing, to which Russian Post was invited as one of the guests. We offered to test the delivery of the item to the post office. We just put a mailbox in it - the manufacturer did everything else, ”said Sergey Kolyada, a representative of the Russian Post.

Of all foreign companies, Amazon has taken the issue of cargo delivery by drones the most seriously. She owns a number of patents for "air couriers", not only for copters of her own design, but also for a drone tower . The patent describes a multi-level building with entrances for people, entry-exit for cars, multiple entrances for the departure and return of drones. As conceived by the authors of the idea, the towers should be installed in the largest settlements, where it is difficult to deliver goods online. First of all, we are talking about New York, London, Tokyo.

The company's patent application states the following: "A multi-level center is designed to support the takeoff and landing of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), likely within the city, including densely populated regions."

Due to the difficulties of a technical and legal nature (drone flights are prohibited in densely populated regions), copters will not start delivering parcels in bulk soon. But everything goes to the fact that sooner or later the “air couriers” will still start work.
