Tor Project's new browser - doesn't use the Tor network...

The Tor Project, the organisation behind the anonymous network and browser, is teaming up with the Mullvad VPN Corporation to launch a privacy-focused browser designed to connect to a VPN instead of a decentralised onion network.

It's called the Mullvad browser, named after the Mullvad VPN company, and builds are available for Windows, Mac or GNU/Linux.

The main purpose of the Mullvad browser is to make it harder for advertisers and other companies to track you online. It does this by working to reduce the "fingerprint" of your browser.

By default, the Mullvad browser makes it harder for websites to capture your fingerprints by masking this metadata.

It also blocks third-party cookies and trackers, and comes with several pre-installed plugins to further reduce fingerprinting.

Mullvad, like the Tor browser, is based on FireFox and is distributed under a free license.

"The development of this browser with Mullvad aims to give people more privacy options for everyday browsing and challenge the current business model of using people's behavioural data," Isabela Fernandez, executive director of the Tor project.

According to a Tor Project spokesperson, the Mullvad browser is very similar to the Tor browser, it just connects to the internet through a VPN rather than the Tor network and is focused primarily on preserving your privacy when using a VPN.

So many beautiful but false phrases about security and protection, when in fact they just sell you a browser for a €5 a month subscription.
