 Ukraine exchanges part of spies with UOC MP for captured defenders - Danilov

During the full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian security services uncovered quite a few spies among the clergy of the UOC MP. Part of the unmasked spies were involved in the exchange process.

The secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, Oleksiy Danilov, said this in an interview. According to him, many representatives of Russia's intelligence community were found in the UOC MP.

Oleksiy Danilov stressed that Russia influenced Ukraine not only through religious organizations, but also through a network of agents that continues to work in the state, but our special services continue to counter them.

At the same time, the unmasked spies in the ranks of the UOC MP were handed over to Russia in exchange for our soldiers.

There were very many representatives of the so-called Russian intelligence community in this institution (UOC MP - Channel 24). We exchanged some of them for our prisoners. These are facts that Ukrainians should know,

It should be recalled that the day before, on the air of Channel 24, Oleksiy Danilov explained that there were many representatives of the Russian FSB in the ranks of the UOC MP, so he stressed that Ukraine was not fighting religion. The secretary of the National Security and Defence Council said that an agent of the Russian FSB could not represent God.

Also, Danilov said that Ukraine would be happy to exchange the scandalous UOC MP metropolitan Pasha "Mercedes" in order to return our defenders from Russian captivity. We shall remind you that he is currently under house arrest.

Many cases of exchange of Moscow bishops for Ukrainian captives are non-public, but the exchange case of 16 February is definitely known. Then Ukraine returned 100 military and 1 civilian.

Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry's intelligence service, said that Russia itself asked the Ukrainian side for a detained Moscow priest. The intelligence representative did not specify whether the UOC MP priest was the only one handed over as part of the exchange, but it is likely that the negotiation process was launched precisely after Russia's aspirations for Ukraine to extradite this priest.

Journalists later found out that the person in question was the rector of the Holy Kazan parish of the Horlivka diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, Mykola Zvezdu. He ruled in the urban-type settlement of Yarovaya, Limanska Hromada in Donetschina. In the run-up to the exchange, the collaborator patriarch received a sentence of 7 years in prison with confiscation of property.
