How we prepared to see the film Nuremberg (2023)

We decided to watch the Russian film Nuremberg (2023), having read the reviews beforehand. As they say, to "get into the theme". 📷

Watching. The director is Nikolai Lebedev. Who is he? His 'patriotic' filmography includes Legend No 17 (2013), a monstrous 'remake' of the Soviet 'Crew' (2016). It's all clear.

The budget is 674 million rubles. Nuremberg was announced in 2018 by then-Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky. Also, everything is clear.

But the film was released after February 24, 2022, and immediately, judging by the public response, it took on a different, topical meaning. Not the one that Medinsky wanted.

Film critic Ekaterina Barabash says after the screening (https://youtu.be/0DzukVKWr1A): "When Göring says a phrase like 'if we hadn't attacked, they would have attacked', the audience laughs." And true. Reminds me of the great geopolitician's excuses.

The responses to the interview by Ekaterina Barabash:

"If people laughed, then all is not yet lost". "The film is on point". "All the war criminals are watching it and getting ready for their trial". "It's funny to watch amid the recent news of Lavrov's foreign audience's reaction to his latest passage about the imposed war we want to end. They laughed...". "We are looking forward to the film The Hague. "It doesn't matter where the trial takes place, what matters is that it takes place and everyone gets what they deserve." "Criminals and scoundrels have seized power in the state. And then they turned the state itself into an instrument of terror. They attacked neighbouring states, destroyed cities and villages." From the Nuremberg materials.  Ring any bells?" "They themselves are crying Nuremberg." "To make a film about Nuremberg in today's conditions, hold me seven!" "It's very symbolic that it's coming out now." "Whatever a fool does, he does wrong." "That's just genius. "To make a film about your own future. "I hope to see Nuremberg live." "It's as if some part of the nomenklatura understands everything and is throwing out pearls, like with this film." "Waiting for a film about a dictator who's been plundering the country in power for 20 years)".

There are hundreds of comments like that out there. That's a case where the preparation will probably prove far more interesting than the viewing itself.

The hall of the Palace of Justice in Nuremberg has been recreated life-size for "Nuremberg". After the filming was finished, it was planned to be handed over to the Patriot Park. So, in case of need, there is no need to go to the real Nuremberg - the hall has been already built with care and attention, using budgetary funds. Well done. "Everything is going according to plan, strictly according to plan."
