The Russian Ministry of Defense often voices the thesis "Ukrainian nationalists hide behind civilians as a shield." Let's see why such an accusation is untenable and is just false propaganda. Thread ⬇️

To begin with, let's check whether Ukrainian equipment is fighting in populated areas? In general, yes, for example, of course, in Mariupol. But not only. There are rare videos and photos of Ukrainian military equipment and military clashes in different settlements

I’ll say right away that in the current situation, there is nothing criminal in the fact that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are defending themselves in cities, towns and villages. On the contrary, it is a forced measure, which has to be taken due to the very nature of the war. Let's figure it out

To prevent the war from turning into a terrible genocide, almost all countries signed various treaties and conventions establishing the basic laws of hostilities. Prohibition of weapons of mass destruction, rules for the treatment of prisoners and civilians

Russian propaganda, speaking of a "human shield", appeals to the Fourth Geneva Convention. Which has these rules. It is easy to see that the Russian army itself constantly violates them:

The application of the conventions depends greatly on the nature of the war. Very roughly, all wars between countries can be divided into local and full-scale. Local ones take place in a limited area of combat operations and are carried out mainly by armies. Full-scale affect a large area

A full-scale or total war is a conflict in which the entire population of the country, all its resources are engaged in war. The best example is the Great Patriotic War. "Everything for the front - everything for victory." In a total war, the war zone is the entire territory of the warring states

On the other hand, a local war takes place in a specific region. For the most part, only the military takes part in it. On at least one side. An excellent example of a local war is the recent Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. When all the battles were only for the same Karabakh

Armenia and Azerbaijan fought. But at the same time, let's say, they didn't bomb each other's capitals, although they could. And they did not endure hostilities outside a certain area (for various reasons). This is such a strange local war. Civilians suffered, of course, but only in battlefields.

By the way, a local war for one side can be total for another. When the entire population fights against or together with another country that sends troops. Examples are the second Anglo-Boer War, the Korean War, Vietnam, the Afghan Wars, the Iraqi Wars.

It is clear that in a local war it is much easier to demand compliance with the rules of war and, in general, to achieve minimization of losses among the population and infrastructure. Local wars are often waged until the destruction of specific military bases or groups. Mostly point strikes.

In a total war, it is much more difficult to avoid civilian casualties. How to do without the capture or destruction of peaceful infrastructure. In such a war, the entire population is a military force. The child gets up to the machine. A woman bandages the wounded. Village old man partisan.

Local war is easier to end. One side can admit that the other has won and make concessions. In a full-scale war, surrender means complete defeat at the mercy of the winner. And this "mercy" is worse than death.

When it comes to saving the state, all forces go into battle. After all, a total war leads to the plunder of the occupied territory, the physical destruction of the population, violence and humiliation of people. Yes, even in the 21st century, we see how Russian soldiers do it all.

The defending side in a total war will sooner or later be forced to apply all measures available to it. How the Japanese used kamikaze, the Germans used children with fausts, the USSR used Molotov cocktails and the mass self-sacrifice of soldiers at the front. Women digging trenches near Moscow

Russian propaganda is trying to present the war in Ukraine as a local one. Or even as a kind of "special operation" against a handful of terrorists. A common trick they use in everything from elections to foreign agents. Sorry, your browser doesn't support embedded videos

Supporting the theses of “special operation against terrorists”, the following phrases are heard: “they are hiding behind civilians as a human shield”, “nationalist battalions are hiding in residential areas”, “they are taking civilians hostage”. As if there are two groups: Ukrainians and some bandits who terrorize them

Although, of course, the war in Ukraine is a full-fledged total or full-scale war. It is waged by large armies over vast territories. The price of the war is the existence of an entire state, and possibly a people, given the genocide of Ukrainians by the Russian army, which we see

Russian troops are advancing deep into Ukraine. Forcing the defenders to defend where necessary. There is no local battle area; until recently, the war was going on literally along the entire border. Even now the front stretched for about 800-1000 kilometers.

Of course, Ukrainians, both military and civilian, quickly realized that this was precisely a total war. Therefore, they act on the basis of the characteristics of such a war. For example, they blow up bridges (like a peaceful object) on the way of columns of Russian armored vehicles. Mobilization was announced.

Yes, the civilian population is being evacuated, but it is clear that it was unrealistic to evacuate everyone, especially in the early days of the rapid advance of the Russian units. For this, humanitarian corridors were needed, which Russian troops tore down.

The situation similar to Mariupol was in Stalingrad. True, there was much more time for evacuation and its failure is recognized as a mistake or even a crime by local authorities. One way or another, thousands of civilians remained in Stalingrad at the time of the siege by the Nazis

No one blames the defenders of Stalingrad for endangering civilians. And those same women and children hiding in the ruins of the city from the invaders are considered heroes. Fairly considered! But Russian propaganda does not care when it is necessary to justify war crimes

What about peaceful development? Total war involves wide areas of warfare. It's time to look at the map of Ukraine. Outskirts of the city of Sumy. At the front of 30 km, at least 9! settlements. And it's like that almost everywhere. Ukraine is a very densely populated country.

That is, literally - in order not to fight in the settlements, the Armed Forces of Ukraine should simply retreat. What about cities? After all, by definition, all objects are peaceful. Should Ukraine have foreseen the construction of military facilities in the city? In case of a Russian attack?

Do Russian propagandists want Ukrainians to simply surrender cities? Of course they do, but Ukrainians have a different opinion on this matter. If you do not put a machine gun in the kindergarten, this kindergarten will be taken over by a Russian soldier, a bastard who rapes and kills children.

If you don't place an ATGM on the roof of the house, a tank will come to shoot the neighboring house at point-blank range - for the sake of commercials on RT. If you do not leave troops in the city, it will be captured like Melitopol or Kherson. Residents will face starvation and repression by the "liberators". Abductions and massacres.

Russian troops are trying to justify the strikes on residential buildings by saying that the Ukrainian military is sitting there or that the houses are covering the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They say they are forced to shoot at civilians. But this is false rhetoric, which does not stand up to scrutiny.

How to stop killing civilians? Stop shooting at them! Russian army, maybe try? Moreover, instead of "high-precision" weapons, they use MLRS and mortars, howitzers and free-fall bombs. A weapon in the very system of which a noticeable "inaccuracy" is embedded. Sorry, your browser doesn't support embedded videos

This is why Russian propaganda uses the term "human shield" to show that this is all post-war Chechnya. That is, gangs of terrorists are holding hostages. And the Russian soldiers bravely save them, shooting from cannons and grenade launchers. But this is not so at all.

Russian propaganda took the rhetoric from the Nazis. They also said that "evil Bolsheviks and commissars are holding your country hostage - surrender." They tried to deceive people, as if they, the Nazis, were fighting only with the Soviet authorities. We really know what happened.

In Ukraine, Russian soldiers are fighting against the entire country. They are opposed by a full-fledged people's army, which operates along the entire front and protects the entire territory of the state to the extent possible. Including every peaceful house - literally like in Stalingrad.

When Lavrov was asked about the troops on the border with Ukraine, he replied: "We will move troops on our land as we want." These same words can be used to answer all claims against Ukraine. Where and how they place the soldiers is the business of the defenders of Ukraine. They must answer to the people. Sorry, your browser doesn't support embedded videos

The blame for the shelling of civilians lies with the one who shoots. There can be no other option. No matter how hard Russian officials try to present the war as some kind of anti-terrorist operation, they will fail. This is an all-out war in which Ukraine is fighting for its survival.

Finally, let's finally send Russian propaganda after the Russian warship, showing how insignificant their attempts to denigrate people who defend their Motherland ⬇️

According to Russian propaganda, the inhabitants of this city are being held by the local military as a "human shield". And no, the photo is not Mariupol, but Leningrad

According to Russian propaganda, snipers, regardless of the laws of war, fire from the windows of residential buildings, which force them to destroy these houses. Stalingrad

According to Russian propaganda, enemy battalions have fortified themselves in a prearranged place inside the city and are holding civilians inside. Brest Fortress

According to Russian propaganda, Ukrainian troops in Kharkov are criminally installing equipment next to residential buildings.

Truth will always be on the side of those who defend themselves, who defend their country, their children, their home. And we will definitely put all propagandists in jail. For instigating a criminal war.

PS I made a mistake. This photo is not from Stalingrad, but from besieged Leningrad after all. Sorry for the inaccuracy!
