The National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia has announced the prevention of a potential terrorist attack, reported by News.am citing the agency's press service. The incident was promptly averted by the NSS.  As per the official statement, a group of individuals was planning to orchestrate an explosion and take control of several state institutions.

They intended to utilize Telegram channels for their plan.The National Security Service has detained five individuals on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack. As per the prosecution's allegations, the suspects planned the crime in 2023. The press release by the agency stated that the seizure of certain buildings would result in killings and severe outcomes. However, the buildings in question are unspecified.

During the searches, the suspects were found to have weapons, ammunition, a drone, Russian SIM cards, and other equipment, as well as notebooks carrying notes on the preparation for a terrorist attack. The law enforcers discovered that the organizers planned to use a network of pre-created Ukrainian and Moldovan Telegram channels for the terrorist attack, which they called "Northern Leaffall." According to the terrorists' plan, the resources should have been activated the day before the crime to attract people to their cause.

The attackers meticulously planned the entire operation, including their retreat strategies as reported by the National Security Service. The law enforcement officers are conducting search operations, and preliminary investigations are ongoing.

In September, protests were held in Yerevan over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, where politicians with close ties to Russia participated. The protests were accompanied by calls from Russian propagandists to overthrow the current Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan.
