The price of Ethereum (ETH) increased against the background of a fake SECreports on the approval of a spot Bitcoin ETF and almost broke above the 2023 high.

The Bitcoin rate (BTC), meanwhile, briefly dipped below $45,000.

Ethereum gains momentum on ETF news

Yesterday, the US Securities and Exchange Commission tweeted approving applications for a spot Bitcoin ETF. However, shortly after this, SEC Chairman Gary Gensler wrote that the regulator's account had been hacked and a decision had not yet been made.

BTC and ETH price movements have diverged since the announcement. At that time, Ethereum rose by 5%, Bitcoin fell by 4%.

On-chain data shows that in the last 24 hours, the whale borrowed $11 million worth of BTC from the AAVE lending protocol and exchanged it for ETH. Ethereum reserves among large investors are also growing at an unprecedented pace: in one day they poured more than $23 million into the asset.

What analysts say

Crypto traders and analysts well-known on Twitter believe that the flow of funds from Bitcoin to Ethereum has already begun.

Alex Kruger stated that the bottom of ETH/BTC has most likely been reached:

“Most of the ingredients for the $ETHBTC bottom are already here: narrative change from BTC ETF to ETH ETF, EigenLayer airdrop, 50% correction, extreme investor pessimism,” he commented.

Will Clemente published an ETH/BTC chart that shows a deviation below the 2022 lows.

Finally, @Cold Blooded Shiller suggests that the narrative will change from a Bitcoin ETF to an ETH ETF, which will cause the price to rise.< /span>

BTCD Forecast: When will altseason start?

The 3-day BTCD chart shows that dominance has been growing inside an ascending parallel channel since November 2022. Such channels usually contain corrective movements, which means they are likely to be broken out.

In addition, the 3-day relative strength index (RSI) is giving bearish signals. The indicator declined after the formation of a bearish divergence coinciding with the BTCD top. If dominance breaks out of the channel, it could fall 10% to the nearest support level at 48.50%. This could be the catalyst for a smallaltseason.

However, a return to the channel's midline could trigger an 11% rise to resistance at 60%.
